About 300 new species of flora and fauna, many of which have vivid and eye-catching colors, have been discovered by scientists in the waters around the Philippine island of Luzon.
The new marine flora and fauna were discovered as part of an expedition to study the biodiversity of the Philippines, jointly organized by the California Institute of Science and the University of the Philippines. Pictured is a shark that has the ability to expand its body by drinking water to inflate its stomach to scare off predators.
A shark was discovered when the expedition team studied the island of Luzon and the surrounding waters between April 26 and June 8.
